The students of Chambers County are at an exciting time in their life regardless of their age or grade level. Elementary students are dreaming of what they want to be when they grow up. High school students are thinking about what they'll do this weekend and if their hair looks good. Those same high school students are planning for college and some, unlike their younger predecessors, have no real idea of what they want to do following high school. We as career technical educators are charged with the task of educating a well-rounded student giving that student every available opportunity to explore career options. Career technical education in Chambers County is undergoing change, as change is the key to the future. The labor market in Chambers County is changing; the need for highly skilled employees is present in every aspect of business and industry. Career technical education for years has maintained autonomy with the home high schools that time has come to an end. Career technical education reinforces academics in every lesson taught and gives the student a direct connection between academic processes and job skills associated with career choices. It doesn't matter if a student wants to be a doctor, a lawyer, or a carpenter; there is a definite need for some form of career technical education. Career technical education is not the vocational education of thirty years ago or even five years ago, it is a technology driven, fast paced curriculum that stimulates a student to think outside of the box. Career technical education is a decisive element in every aspect of a students' educational career. No matter how insignificant we think our suggestions or comments may be, we as educators and parents play a vital role in shaping and directing our young people's lives.
